Much of the furniture and memorabilia are from the old Rice Hotel`s Capitol Club, a legendary locale from the turn of the century that witnessed such historic milestones as the first electrical lights and air conditioners of the city, prominent judges and oil men cementing the success of Southern Texas, and the last place where President Kennedy ate before traveling to Dallas in 1963. Considered by many as one of the cornerstones of the Houston Downtown renaissance, it is also tribute to the glory days of the city`s oil boom.
The State Bar & Lounge is a popular place for happy hour parties and business meetings. We offer a limited food menu along with a large variety of vodkas, various tap and bottled beers, sophisticated wines and a selection of over a hundred different types of liquors. The State Bar & Lounge is a perfect place to host your next function. For parties up to 35 people, The State Bar & Lounge will set aside the rear half of the lounge or patio. For parties of 35 to50 we will reserve the entire lounge or patio. This includes wedding receptions or business meetings. Please ask one of our managers about dress codes and exceptions.
HOUSTON, Oct. 29, 1998 – Houston`s storied Rice Hotel, which once played host to American luminaries before falling into decades of neglect, gets a new lease on life today as a luxury apartment community.
The $27.5 million renovation, which restores much of the 1913-era structure to its early glamour, is a joint effort by Atlanta-based Post Properties, local developer Randall Davis and The Houston Housing Finance Corporation. It`s a prime example of how adaptive reuse around the country is reviving interest in downtown living.
