The Mission Statement for the El Paso Museum of Art is: To collect, interpret, preserve and exhibit works of art that maintain and support the strengths of the Museum’s permanent collections of American, European, and Mexican art. El Paso Museum of Art Collections: - 12th - 18th century European Art. The Collection of European paintings is primarily composed of the Samuel H. Kress Collection consisting of paintings and sculpture. These Western European masterworks include artists such as: Bernardo Bellotto, Canaletto, Jusepe de Ribera, Giovanni di Paolo, Lavinia Fontana, Artemesia Gentileschi, Lorenzo Lotto, Bartolome Esteban Murillo, Hyacinthe Rigaud, Bernardo Strozzi, Anthony van Dyck and Francisco Zubarán. - Spanish Viceroyal. The Collection reflects the period of the Spanish Empire in the New World. The collections of 17th through 19th centuries include paintings on panel, canvas, copper and tin. Many of these works were used as devotional images. - Works on Paper. The Collection includes more than 2,500 works in a variety of media such as: prints, drawings, watercolors, posters, artists's books and photographs from the 16th through the 20th centuries. - Contemporary. The Collection is focused on important art of the southwest region including: Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and Mexico. This collection includes mostly painting and sculpture by artists such as: Julie Bozzi, Carlos Callejo, Susan Davidoff, James Drake, etc. Works from the Contemporary Collection are rotated in the permanent collection galleries and are featured in exhibitions from the collection. - American. The Museum houses one of the region's most extensive collections of American art from the early 19th century through the 20th century. With a particular emphasis on the art of the southwest including Taos and Santa Fe Masters and artists from the El Paso area. The Museum School offers studio art instruction and classes to adults, teens, children and families. Adult Art Classes (Ages 15 and up): Relief Printmaking, Drawing and Composition, Beginning Watercolor Painting, Intermediate Watercolor Techniques, Painting the Still Life, Wheel-throwing, Book Bunch. Children and Adult Classes: Toddler Time. Children Art Classes: Self-Portrait Marionettes, Printmaking for Kids. Family Classes: Printmaking. Public and Family Programs. The Museum offers family events, film series and video programs, lectures and gallery talks, concerts and performances, workshops, storytelling sessions and more throughout the year in conjunction with changing exhibitions and permanent collections. All are designed to help the general public increase their knowledge of the arts. Teacher services prepare educators for tours and enable them to use the Museum collections as primary source material for teaching in various subject areas and they earn CPE hours for participating in programs. The Museum collaborates with local schools and organizations to promote and provide art education opportunities to the El Paso/Juarez community.
