The El Campo Museum of Natural History features the core of the animal trophy collection of Dr. E. A. Weinheimer as well as the contributions of other local hunters. Our Exhibits. - Alaskan Brown Bear Exhibit. An upright Alaskan brown bear seems content after catching his first almon. The ground work of this exhibit is done with a foam frame and clear acrylic-looking stream. Driftwood, rocks, and pebbles add to the authenticity of this exhibit. - Arctic Exhibit. The caribou, Alaskan polar bear, lynx fox, and walrus are at home on the icy tundra of the Arctic room. A backdrop of snow capped mountains among icy blue water is captured in acrylic white and blue tones. The atmosphere is definitely frigid. - African Exhibit. The most exciting area of the museum may well be the African exhibit. It was refurbished in the 1990s to restore fading and cracking paint and to make it look more like the African savannah. - Big Cats Jungle Exhibit. While walking through the Jungle Room, you get the impression that plant life thrives abundantly here. Among this typical rain forest, the jaguar, anaconda and leopard seem at home. - Rocky Mountain Exhibit. Hiding around the corner as visitors walk through this exhibit is the Mountain Goat resting high above the Rocky Mountains. Both male and female have the white hair and black horns. - South Texas Exhibit. Visitors can view the different animals in the El Campo area in their seasons here at the museum. - The Waterfowl Exhibit. Cattails and driftwood surround the Waterfowl pond that lies beneath a mural of flooded rice fields. Children and adults both enjoy the museum's special collections, which have been donated by individuals to the museum throughout the years. Special Collections and Events. - The Blossom Meyer Clown Collection. A wide variety of clowns in the form of paintings, dolls, cups, and needlepoint. - Hump Lures Collection. The Hump Lures and historical papers and documents (minus the secrets) featured in this exhibit are the donated private collection of Mr. and Mrs. Humphreys, becoming a permanent part of the historical collections in 1995. - Seashells Collection. Children love the colorful and unusual shells found in the Seashell Collection, which consists of hundreds of small and individually tracked seashells. - Our Book Collection. The Museum gift shop offers your own autographed copy of any of El Campo native Joe Tom Davis's books about our great state. - Holiday Special. The museum is the one place you count on seeing Santa and getting into the Christmas spirit each year.
