The Brazoria County Historical Museum’s primary purpose is to act as the Historical Resource Center for Brazoria County. The Museum collects and accessions items that document the history of Brazoria County; as prescribed in the Museum’s Mission Statement. Items include government records, artifacts, books, publications, maps, photographs, oral history tapes, newspapers, videotapes, microfilm, artwork, and the archives of individuals, families, businesses, institutions and other organizations. Items are usually unique and document a significant body of knowledge about the area’s history.
The Brazoria County Historical Museum houses the Adriance Library & Research Center, a repository for information on Brazoria County and related historical subjects. Extensive genealogical and photographic holdings draw researchers from across the United States.
The Brazoria County Historical Museum has a vibrant and active list of exhibits.  These offerings are designed to edify and educate participants about Brazoria County history. In addition to our permanent exhibit, we present a couple of temporary exhibits each year.
The Museum offers a variety of educational and public programs. These include guided tours of the Museum as well as outreach programs for schools and civic groups. Schools may book tours of the Museum, outreach programs or check out activity trunks targeted to local curricula.
Additional resources for teachers. The Museum is in the process of building new, traveling trunks for use by Brazoria County School Teachers. These new resources are available to any teacher in Brazoria County through their local, county library. The trunks target 3rd, 4th and 7th grade social studies and history classes.  Each trunk contains the supplies, lesson plans and support material for a class to explore the economic history of Colonial Life in Texas.
The Museum's book store has a nice selection of Texana books as well as unique gifts. Certain collections or papers may transcend Brazoria County’s geographical boundary, but are related in a significant way to the area’s history.  The one exception is published material. The Adriance Research Center Library accessions books relating to Brazoria County and Texas History and books written by Brazoria County authors. Collecting current information on people and events in the county for use by future researchers is also a priority.
The Museum is free and open for drop-in visitors Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and Saturday 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.
