The Women's Museum began as the dream of one woman, Cathy Bonner. Her dream became reality with the help of corporations, foundations, governments and individuals across the nation. The Women's Museum opened on September 29, 2000. The Museum provides a place where people can honor the past and explore the contributions of women through fun, state-of-the-art interactive exhibits. Using the latest technology and interactive media, the Museum's exhibits and programs expand our understanding of women's participation in shaping our nation's history and create a lively environment for dialogue and discovery. Thousands of stories recount public and private triumphs and the struggles of those who would be denied their freedoms in all its forms: political, social, and spiritual.
At the entrance to the permanent exhibits, visitors encounter a screen showing the diversity of women from all races, cultures, and ages. Using morphing technology, the pictures of women's faces blend and merge.

The Institute shapes the future through innovative and educational programs. We bring programming to girls and women throughout the year:

- Texas Girls' State Fair. Texas Girls State Fair Information, Girls That Rock! Music Festival, Let's Go Science Show, MathMovesU
- Public Programming. Dallas Puppet Theater, Girl's Educational Programs
- School Programs. Field Trips, Lesson Plans
- Girl Scouts. Camp Ins, Finance Lessons
Group visits & tours. The Women's Museum offers several options for your group to learn about the amazing accomplishments of American women:
- Discount group rates are available for 10 or more.
- Groups may schedule a docent-guided or self-guided tour.
- Docent-guided tours include permanent and special exhibits which highlight multicultural and multi-ethnic stories of American women. Docent-guided tours generally last one to one-and-a-half hours. We recommend that you allow an additional half-hour for your guests to take a closer look at the exhibits or browse through The Museum Store.
