In 1852, the Ladies Magazine Club (later the Ladies Reading Circle) solicited and donated over 1, 000 books to establish the first Bastrop Library. In September 1978, the Library joined the Texas State Library system and became a member of the Central Texas Library System. In 1989, our current Library opened its doors at 1100 Church Street. Materials Available: - Hard covers & Paperbacks - Audiocassette & CD books - Videos, DVD’s & Music CD’s - Magazines & newspapers All materials circulate for two weeks. Materials are returned inside the library during hours of operation. After hours, two separate drops located just outside the front door for returning materials. The library selects materials written especially for the young adult audience, ages 14 - 19. The materials are selected from reviews and notices of award winning books in this field. These materials may contain topics and issues which are intended for a mature teen audience. Children’s Services: - Pre-school story time. There is child-like fun for the entire family at our library. Miss Bonnie, our children's librarian, will take you on an adventure through book land as we find out what activities she has planned for us next! Two story times give kids and their parents a chance not to miss out on each week's theme and children's book selections. Stories, activities and crafts are appropriate for preschool toddlers, kindergarteners, and early elementary grade school children. - Summer Reading Program - Super Saturday family programs the third Saturday of each month. Adult Services: - Reference librarian available for assistance - Exam proctoring - Three week loan period for educators - Tax forms and publications Young Adult Services: - Teen Advisory Board - Summer Reading Program - Teen Room with Young Adult Collection - Iternet computers just for teens - Fliers posted in Teen Room for other programs - Teen Movie Night 6 – 8 every third Thursday of the month Public Access Computers: - Internet Access - Library Card Catalog - Word Processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software - TexShare databases and NetLibrary ebooks courtesy of the Texas State Library. Prints and Copier: Copier, computer, and microfilm prints. A Meeting Room and Conference Room are available to certain qualified groups by reservation only. Meeting rooms at the Bastrop Public Library are designed to meet general informational, educational, cultural, and civic needs including activities such as discussion groups, panels, lectures, conferences, seminars, exhibits, displays, storytimes, puppet shows, and films. We invite you for Special Events and Services: Teen Advisory Board, Library Board Meeting, Creative Writing Group, Beginning Windows XP class, Ice Cream Social, Friends of the Library Meeting and many others.
