During these formative years young children learn through exploration, social interactions, observation, play, and discovering both on their own and through teacher lead activities. Enrichment activities including dance/movement, music and Spanish also give children other avenues for self expression. Our developmentally balanced approach combined with what you as parents teach your child forms a foundation for them to become life long learners. A journey filled with questioning instead of answering.
At Grandma`s House we believe that every child is special and unique. Children must be given the opportunity to form a positive self concept and develop at a challenging, stimulating and realistic pace. Grandma`s House offers your child a place with the finest, brightest environment with the latest in educational toys and equipment. This atmosphere, combined with the well designed programs for each age group, creates a superb school for your child to learn, play and grow.
Our Pinnacle curriculum is a child development based learning program that teaches the following skills in both large and small group settings.
Math: our younger child work on beginning math skills such as sorting, patterns, shape recognition, numbers, counting, and one-to-one correspondence. We even have cooking activities to help teach measurement. Our Pre-K class uses the Math Start curriculum to prepare them for kindergarten.
Library: each classroom has an area with books, stories on tape, and puppets so that children will be introduced to beginning reading skills. We also have a cozy library that the children visit for story time which helps develop a love for books and reading.
Language, Phonics, and Handwriting: in our nursery we begin to teach language skills that we will continually build upon as your child ages by using flash cards, alphabet songs and by using the environment around them. By the time they reach our preschool we use Leap Frog Press to teach phonemic awareness. Each of our Pre-K students works in a Steck-Vaugn phonics workbook to work on handwriting skills.
