Star Montessori School and Daycare
Star Montessori School and Daycare was established in 1988. We are licensed and registered by the State of Texas. The school building is 10,000 square feet and is built on 4.5 acres of land. The area is fenced to ensure safety and is professionally maintained and landscaped. We have 4 large colorful playgrounds which are regularly inspected for safety and maintenance. For added security, all our classrooms are monitored by video cameras. The monitoring extends to our outside play area and the parking lot. This adds an extra protection that benefits both our school and our families. The building was designed for the children’s needs and priorities. All our classrooms have their own bathrooms with smaller commodes to suit the children’s ages. This aids in successful toilet training where the child is not intimidated by a large commode. We have grown extensively since we first started in 1988. We have expanded our facility in the last few years and hope to continue growing and providing our area with quality care and education. Our Philosophy The Montessori concept of education allows children to experience the joy of learning at an early age and provides an environment in which intellectual, moral, physical, spiritual and social growth flourish. It provides the vehicle whereby the child may attain inner discipline and control; he becomes the intelligent and responsible master of himself. The basic principle in the Montessori philosophy of education is that every child carries within him potentialities of the MAN that he can become. In order to develop his physical, intellectual and spiritual powers to the fullest, he must have freedom - a freedom to be achieved through order and self discipline. Montessori recognizes that children are guided by an inborn, natural process of growth and that, by removing the obstacles to this unfolding and answering the needs of the child as they arise, education should be an “aid to life.” Children attending a Montessori school learn to work with a group and develop the self-discipline required of their tasks. They are introduced to all phases of learning and appreciate understanding and the pleasure of knowledge. They attain confidence in achievement and are stimulated to develop their own talent and interest to a high degree. Programs Our program for 18 months to 2 years emphasizes on the Montessori method of helping unfold a child’s inborn talents. Our belief is that a child is endowed with an absorbent and curious mind which can guide him/her to a radiant future. Our aim is to help every child achieve this goal. From 2 years to 4 years the Montessori method focuses more on material and education which will develop concentration and coordination. The basics such as the alphabet, phonics, numbers and colors are taught daily. A strong emphasis is also placed on helping the child attain independence and being able to have self reliance. This admirable trait extends to the child’s home, where he/she is able to help with chores and other practical life activities. From 4 years to 6 years the main objective is to give the child a strong foundation in reading, writing and mathematics. With a solid background in these subjects, the child is highly likely to succeed when he/she enters the public school system. Our After-school program allows children at neighboring elementary schools to be picked up and brought back to Star. The children are encouraged to finish homework and other school assignments. Assistance is always available by our helpful staff. The children are then free to occupy themselves by a variety of ways. We have a large selection of toys and games, including Nintendo and Playstation. Arts and craft projects are always popular especially around the holidays. The children are also encouraged to take advantage of our large play area. We have plenty of field area to accommodate team sports such as soccer, basketball and baseball. The nature of this method shows us that freedom and discipline are two faces of the same medal.
