The EFL program offers twelve levels of intensive English. Each level consists of 72 class-hours of instruction. At the end of each four-week session students take final exams. Students making satisfactory academic progress then advance to the next higher level. The minimum passing grade is 70%. Grade sheets are issued to students upon completion of final exams. Transcripts of grades are furnished to admissions departments of colleges and universities upon request. Average class size is ten students. Upon successful completion of level twelve, each student is awarded a Certificate of Proficiency stating that he or she is prepared to undertake university studies in the United States. Founded almost 20 years ago, the Center of English Language (CEL) offers intensive programs in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) to international students, businessmen, businesswomen and visitors to the United States. Located in North Dallas, the CEL campus is 7 miles north of downtown Dallas and 30 minutes from DFW International Airport. Dallas is the eighth largest city in the United States; the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex population exceeds 3-1/2 million people. The CEL student body is truly international. In 1998 alone nearly 1,000 students enrolled in CEL`s intensive English Language Program. Students and their teachers organize a number of off-campus field trips during the year, enabling students to become better acquainted with the Dallas - Fort Worth area and with American customs and lifestyles. Field trips include visits to the Texas State Fair, Dallas Public Library, university and college campuses, shopping malls, and area lakes and gardens CEL students and their teachers also organize a variety of social activities including picnics at nearby recreational parks and festive gatherings on campus. At the beginning of each session, students and staff get together for an informal `Donut Day` orientation for the purpose of meeting new students and introducing them to the CEL campus and its various programs and activities.
