Aragón Spanish Academy
Aragón Spanish Academy is a Christian-based Spanish immersion program in San Antonio tailored toward children, and focusing primarily on the early childhood years when experts say kids can most readily absorb one or more foreign languages. We were established to prepare and equip children with communication skills that will benefit them throughout their lives. Studies show that by the time we are in high school, and even middle school, the likelihood of learning another language has significantly diminished. Preschool. At Aragón Spanish Academy, children ages three to five years old begin learning the Spanish language in an encouraging and friendly atmosphere. The curriculum is designed to build a child's confidence in speaking Spanish along with cultivating other important developmental skills. The teachers speak Spanish during the class time, using English only when necessary. They make learning Spanish fun while providing a structured and warm classroom environment. The curriculum is organized around themes familiar to a child's daily life. The children's daily class routine is comprised of a combination of teacher-lead and child-lead activities. The daily activities include circle time, Cmusic and movement, learning centers, individual instruction, art and craft time, outdoor playtime and snack time. Afterschool. Children attend class without parents and are immersed in the Spanish language in a warm and encouraging environment. They hear the Spanish language spoken by a teacher who speaks the language correctly. Since classes are kept small, the teacher is able to create plenty of opportunities for children to practice the words and phrases being taught in class. This emphasis on oral communication builds a child's confidence in speaking Spanish and instills a desire to continue learning the language. Activities include music, dancing for kids, role playing, arts and craft, games and worksheets. Parent & Child. Children attend classes with a parent or caregiver who actively participates in each class. Both children and parents are kept engaged as they are led through a series of age-appropriate activities which include music and movement, circle time, arts and crafts and dramatic play. Classes not only focus on developing a child's Spanish vocabulary and language comprehension, but also on cultivating important skills such as fine and gross motor, socialization, listening, following directions and good manners. The school is not affiliated with any particular Christian denomination. The children pray at the beginning of each class and before meals, learn a few Christian songs like, "Yes, Jesus Loves Me," in Spanish, and celebrate Christian holidays like Christmas and Easter. We treat each child and their family with respect regardless of their faith. Our desire is for children to know that Jesus Christ loves them unconditionally. We believe the environment this creates only enhances the learning process.
