Westminster Christian Academy's vision begins with our students and their families. First, we believe our specific task is to be partners with our families in the education and equipping of their children. This means we want to partner with you to help you fulfill a God-given responsibility to raise, nurture, and prepare your child. This partnership brings us to our specific role. We are a school and must be educators. We complement church and home in the life of a child, accompanying the role of those two by taking on the specific task of academic instruction. This role is filled by a staff of Christian men and women specially gifted by God in teaching. Finally, we will lay a foundation for a coherent Christian worldview. A worldview provides a framework through which a person interprets the myriad experiences of everyday life. A Christian worldview is founded in the knowledge that God is the basis of all truth and knowledge. Our graduates will leave knowing that God is not just the God of the Bible, but also the God of mathematics, history, science, literature, and the arts.
Philosophy:
It is in existence to help students grow spiritually, emotionally, physically, and academically. We desire our children to follow in the model of Christ, growing, “in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men,” (Luke 2:52). Our approach to education requires that God and His Word be the focal point through which all learning and living are experienced. A Christ centered world-view serves as the lens through which we learn and evaluate all experience and information. While education is our primary purpose, in the course of that education the saving grace of Jesus Christ will be presented to all children, and they will be invited to receive Him as their personal Savior.
A common question for any parent looking at a new school is, “What is distinctive about your school?” These are the constants that you should expect of Westminster Christian Academy:
- High academic achievement: Students are asked to perform in a rigorous Christian curriculum. The results are outstanding. Our average student outperformed four out of five students nationally, and our fifth graders left WCA with an average Grade Level Equivalent of a remarkable 10.5!
- Small Class Sizes: Our target class size is 12-14 students for grades 1-6 and 10-11 for kindergarten. Preschool classes have 10 students or fewer in all age levels. The largest class in our school in 2007-08 has 16 students.
- Committed Christian Teachers: Every teacher must demonstrate their qualification for teaching, i.e. that they are gifted with both the ability and the desire to teach young children about their world. They must also agree to the school's statement of faith, be active members of local churches, and be able to give a clear testimony of their faith in Jesus Christ.
- Inoculation, not insulation: We want to grow our students into adults prepared to make an impact for Christ. This means that they need to be ready for the challenges that they will meet in later life. We emphasize critical thinking skills to prepare our students to meet, understand, and work to change the world that will greet them in their futures.
