Northwest Montessori House of Children
From its founding in 1984, under the direction of Ms. Shireen De Silva, Northwest Montessori House of Children has been privileged to witness the growth and development of over a thousand students, and watch as they continue their education with confidence in their own abilities and potential. Over the years, we have expanded to include three campuses with students ranging from 18 months to 6 years old under the guidance of over twenty dedicated and passionate teachers. Each of our campuses has a large, fully shaded playground. We utilize the Montessori method of education, which aids in the accelerated development of your child, further enhancing his or her knowledge and self-esteem. The Montessori method encourages all children to develop their own skills at a pace they set, and is rooted in a core belief that education should not only impart knowledge, but must always strive to unlock human potential. Programs: Pre-school, Kindergarten and First Grade Although the entrance age varies in individual schools, a child can usually enter a Montessori classroom between the ages of 18 months and 6 years depending on when he/she can be happy and comfortable in a classroom situation. The Program, which includes toddlers, ranging in age from 18 months through 3 years and the Primary Classroom with children from 3 to 6 years of age. The child begins with the simplest basic elementary activities and moves to more complex ones at his/her own pace based on their interest and abilities. The Montessori materials used in the pre-primary classroom will help your child develop the concentration, coordination and working habits necessary for the more advanced activities of language, grammar, math, geography and social studies they will continue to perform in the classroom. Playground: At Northwest Montessori we believe that exercising our bodies is just as important as exercising our minds, so throughout the day we take a break under the trees of our large, cool playgrounds to nurture every child's natural instinct to play. Each playground is completely shaded, full of age appropriate equipment and activities, and is a perfect place for all our students to run, jump, and just be kids. Executive Director-Ms.Shireen de Silva Ms.Shireen de Silva holds an AMI (Association Montessori Internationale) and has over 35 years of experience working with children. She established and founded Northwest Montessori in 1984 and has been serving the students and parents of Austin, Texas ever since. This school is one of the leading Montessori schools in Austin and continues to maintain the highest standards in the industry. The U.S. Small Business Administration has issued an award to Northwest Montessori and Ms. de Silva for running a successful small business.
