The founder and inspiration of the Art School Fredericksburg, John Laurence Karasek is an internationally known artist. His recent paintings are about his life in Switzerland, what he saw everyday on his way to his studio, especially observations of the lake and the reflections of the sky and water. Many materials will be used in his intensive drawing class including color and paint to interpret and reconstruct from observation. Illustrations of master drawing are used as reference. No previous drawing experience is required. The fee includes a material kit and the model fee.
Artists teaching the master classes at the Art Academy work closely with individual students who follow the creative process of art making by the artist as this unfolds. Artist and students work together, often from the same subject. The working relationship is intense and dynamic.
The Art Academy Fredericksburg Texas is on a hill overlooking the 25 acre Barons Creekside park of Pecan and Live Oak trees, the creek running through on its way to the Perdenales river. The magnificent landscape around Fredericksburg is often both the brilliant and inspiring outdoor studio and the subject for plein air painting classes. The Art Academy follows the classic traditions of drawing and painting from life, still life and portrait painting found in Europe. There are also classes in ceramics and clay sculpture. Separate workshops can combine for a sustained study of the figure in different media for students interested in an in depth understanding of Art.

The Art Academy location on the Barons Creekside property offers a unique opportunity for a complete focus on making art in an ideal, parkland landscape setting close to all the attractions of Fredericksburg and the Texas Hill Country. A combined tuition / accommodations / catered meals fee package is available for weeklong workshop students including onsite spa treatments after a long day in front of the easel.
Special rates are available for art students Sunday-Thursday, three-day minimum, if booked through the Art Academy Fredericksburg. All accommodations have wireless Internet, TV, heating and AC. Some have additional luxuries - Jacuzzi, hot tub and wood burning fireplaces.
