Murder By The Book was established in 1980 by Martha Farrington.
Murder By The Book welcomes today's finest crime novelists for the store's ongoing Mystery Author Luncheon Series. Tickets are available only at Murder By The Book until 3 days before each event or until sold out. The authors' latest novel will be for sale at each event. One of Murder By The Book's most beloved mystery authors, Carolyn Hart, will sign & discuss the first in a new paranormal mystery series, Ghost at Work, at two Murder By The Book events – the Mystery Author Luncheon and an evening store signing.
Murder By The Book has a book discussion group that meets once a month on Wednesdays. The meetings are free and open to all. You are welcome to join having read both, only one, or neither of the books. The themes are: Children's fantasy thrillers, Paranormal mysteries, Irish crime novels, Art & Literature and many others.
Our Signed Books. All first U.S. editions, unless otherwise noted. We also have signed first editions in our used-book section.
Our Event Signing Policies: If you're attending one of our events for the first times, please keep the following in mind:
- The talks/readings are free. However, if you want to get any books signed, the new book must be purchased from Murder By The Book.
- You may always bring earlier books to be signed, but a limit may be imposed for authors who draw very large crowds.
- For the bigger signings, numbers will be handed out, with attendees lining up for the signing in numerical order. Arrive early for low numbers.
Murder By The Book publishes its own bimonthly magazine, The Dead Beat Magazine.
Special souvenirs: We offer T-shirts with “Go to hell, I'm reading!” or “Suspect everyone” quotes. Also you can get a bookbag with featuring our store logo on one side and Heywood Hale Broun's quote on the other: “In the march up the heights of fame, there comes a spot close to the summit in which a man reads nothing but detective stories”.
Store Hours: Monday thru Saturday - 10am to 6pm, Sunday - 12 noon to 5pm.
Murder By the Book is the proud recipient of Mystery Writers of America's Raven Award and Houston Press's Best Bookstore 2006. Murder By The Book wins a 2007 James Patterson PageTurner Award. The 2007 James Patterson Awards are intended to celebrate the people, companies, schools and other institiutions who find original and effective ways to spread the excitement of books and reading.
