What type of bike is right for you? - Road bikes are what some old schoolers refer to as “ten speeds” or “racing bikes”. Road bikes are designed to maximize your energy efficiency so if you want to ride far or fast or both and you are doing it on pavement then you want a road bike. - Neighborhood/bike path bikes come in two categories-the hybrid and the comfort bike. They both share a comfortable seat often with a shock absorbing seat post and tires that are wider and therefore more cushioning than road bike tires. They are both designed for a casual rider or a commuter not for aggressive riders. - Full suspension mountain bikes are your best friend if you want to ride fast on rough trails because they keep the rear wheel on the ground instead of allowing it to bounce off every obstacle it hits like on a hardtail. There are a four sub categories of full suspension bikes: Cross country, All-mountain, Freeride bikes and Downhill. - A Recreational mountain lets you to ride it off-road on dirt trails but it doesn’t have the handling characteristics and suspension performance you need to ride like a mountain bike God - Enthusiast level hardtail mountain bikes. A lot of mountain bike racers ride these because they tend to be lighter than cross country full suspension bikes. They are also the bike of choice for highly skilled and seasoned aggressive riders who know how to pick a clean line through the rough stuff and just like the feel of a hardtail. If you buy a bike from The Urban Bicycle Gallery you can bring it back anytime you want as often as you want during the first year of ownership for free tune-up which includes straightening wheels, adjusting the gears, brakes and bearings.
